Description


SVMRES is a FPS (First Person Shooter) video game project based on a cyberpunk story, in 3D, multiplatform, for one or more players (on-line), originally in Catalan  (with translations into Spanish, French, English and German), free of charge, developed totally with tools and elements in the public domain and with a strong social glocal implication, Creative Commons licensed and developed by the non-profit association team SVMRES with the help of volunteers.

SVMRES was created on 24 November 2007 and was presented officially on 25 April 2008. In June 2008 intense production starts, focusing on the first playable demo that we hope to have available and stable by the end of the year.

Story


Year  2050. The corporation SVM is experimenting with “non-evolved” humans in its biogenetic research centre located in what was a beautiful village of 5000 inhabitants.   If you manage to escape from the experimentation laboratory you have to join the resistance group formed by some survivors from the first eugenesis.
Project philosophy:

 

-Pro-am: aficionados (amateurs) working under professional standards
-Copylef: We use free software and public domain material. Naturally the whole SVMRES project is exempt from copyright. We use a Creative Commons 2.5 España licence.
-Independence: Total independence from any outside organisation (public or private)
-Glocal:  global vocation, in terms of project scope and human team involved. With strong local ties (language, reference elements, social network)
Organisation:


The responsibility of the SVMRES project is the non-profit association “SVMRES”.
SVMRES is a super production and as such we calculate that we should involve around a hundred people for about three years. To be able to manage the whole human capital we have created a business structure with a defined organisational chart.
Money


Nobody working for SVMRES will receive payment.
SVMRES will be a free videogame.
The SVMRES project is not for sale
Expenses from the project have been put forward by some of the members of the organisation.
We hope to finance ourselves with grants, sponsorships, subventions and awards, both public and private.
SVMRES project levels


SVMRES is a conventionally aesthetic and operative videogame like any commercial FPS but this surface characteristic is perhaps the least important of the renditions that our initiative offers.
As an artistic project it will be ad hoc, with particular focus on documenting the whole process, genre references, presentations in artistic spaces, etc.
As a social project SVMRES is a network of people working on an incredible communal project. The need to find valid solutions to each of the numerous problems inherent to such an ambitious project makes the experience of being involved in SVMRES a practical master’s degree in each of the project areas (business organisation, “sales”, illustration, 3d modelling, programming, etc).  Training is complemented by the organising and attending by team members of workshops, courses and seminars.
As ideology, SVMRES aims to boost militancy for free software and commons.
